Fogueres de Sant Joan, Xàbia 2022.
Over the course of two weeks in June, the town of Xàbia on the Eastern coast of Spain celebrates the Fogueres de Sant Joan.
On the penultimate day of the two weeks, bonfires are lit in the streets to burn the "trastos vells", the old rubbish. A procession of thousands come out into the street to jump over the fires at every corner, culminating in a huge bonfire of old furniture.
Waking up the next morning, heavy with the smell of smoke, you wonder whether it really happened.
